Russian President Vladimir Putin conratulates tennis player Daniil Medvedev on his triumph over Novak Djoković in the US Open finals.

Medvedev marks an impressive victory over Djoković with the 3:0 score ( 6:4, 6:4, 6:4) and wins his first Grand Slam trophy.
Putin congratulated Medvedev on his "brilliant victory" via his official channels:
- On your journey to the finals of this prestigious tournament, you have demostrated the highest level of skill and patience in achieving your goals. You have played this decisive match with confidence and calm and in so doing, your strong and renowned opponent did not stand a chance. This is how the real champions do it - states the message signed off by Putin and published on the official web site of the Russian Kremlin.
Before Daniil, the last Russian player to win a Grand Slam was Maria Sharapova in 2014 when she won the Franch Open, Roland-Garros. The last Russian male tennis player who won a Grand Slam was Marat Safin in 2005 when he won the Australian Open.
