Residents of a South African village fear that they are being haunted by a werewolf and that he is to blame for the death of a man whose body covered with bite marks was found last month.
Diesel Michael Macambi (59) died near the Buffalo River in the village of Kwakonkota and his family absolutely rejects as nonsense the stories that he was killed by some mythical creature and they claim that Macambi was attacked and killed by a pack of dogs, most likely pit bulls.
East Cape police also state that Macambi was attacked by a pack of wild dogs, but that did not alleviate the fears of the villagers who believe that a werewolf is haunting them in their area and who warned others through social media to stay away from the village.
Macambi’s mother, the 96-year-old Nongenile Liziwe Makambi, told News24 that her son, before he died, managed to tell the boys who found him that he had been attacked by three dogs and begged them for help.
- We heard that one woman saw my son being attacked by dogs and that she called people to help him, but when the boys got there, it was too late. They tore my son to pieces - said Makambi, Kurir reports.
Local police also stated that they are investigating the case and called on the public to stop spreading stories about the werewolf because Macambi was killed by a pack of pit bulls from a nearby town.
- People must understand that this family is grieving and that we must be careful with the things we say. We ask people to stop spreading stories about werewolves, because that can upset the family. Werewolves do not exist - it was ordered from the police.
