A wild boar named Putin, who lives in a zoo in the German region of Upper Franconia, will change his name due to the war in Ukraine.
- It's beneath all dignity what this man is doing - said the director of the park, Eckard Mickisch.
He announced that the new name will be given on the basis of an online competition that has been announced.
He said that the wild boar came to the park as a cub, and since it was originally from Russia, it was named Putin.
- By now, it has turned out that no pig deserves such a name - Mickisch said.
A few days after Russia's attack on Ukraine, he decided not to use that name for his wild boar anymore.
He pointed out that refugees from Ukraine can enter that zoo for free, and that it would be uncomfortable to hear Putin's name.
Arpund 2,700 proposals were received as part of the vote for the new name, and Zelenskyy or Klitschko stood out as favorites, but Mickisch says that he no longer wants to name animals after politicians, so he needs to choose between Igor, Frederick and the word "Mir", which is the Ukrainian and Russian word for "peace".
