Eleven people were arrested on 8 April, in an anti-smuggling operation in Štrpce and Bosniak Mahala, in the northern part of Kosovska Mitrovica. A larger quantity of goods and several vehicles were seized.
The action called "Transport 2" was carried out by the Border Police Department in cooperation with the Kosovo Customs, with the aim of suppressing crime, smuggling and other cross-border criminal activities, the police said, as reported by kossev.info.
Investigative actions within that action started at the end of 2021, due to suspicion that certain persons were engaged in „illegal trade".
- The Border Police Department and the Kosovo Customs inspected four locations, three in the municipality of Štrpce and one in the municipality of North Mitrovica, and searched four vehicles suspected of transporting smuggled goods - the Kosovo Police said in a statement.
During the search, they added, a significant amount of smuggled commercial goods was found and seized – groceries, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and other goods without proper documents, as well as three vehicles.
The police stated that a total of eleven men from Kosovo were arrested under suspicion of involvement in smuggling, without specifying whether and how many of them were arrested in Štrpce and in North Mitrovica.
