Sami Jasim, a senior member of the Islamic State who is in charge of the finances of that terrorist organisation and the deputy of the murdered leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was caught in Iraq on Monday, 11 October 2021.

The news was announced by Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Twitter.
- While our heroes focused on securing the elections, their colleagues (Iraqi national intelligence services) conducted a complex operation to capture Sami Jasim - the Prime Minister wrote, but did not reveal the details of the operation.
Baghdadi was killed in a raid by US special forces in northwestern Syria in 2019, and the US State Department then offered a 5 million dollar reward for the information on the location of Islamic State leaders which they had identified, including Jasim.
