According to Newsweek, since the war on the territory of Ukraine began, not only have many countries turned their backs on the Kremlin and Vladimir Putin, the highest state officials have also done so.

The resignation of Boris Bondarev, a Russian diplomat to the United Nations, resonated most loudly.

As Republika has already written, when explaining his decision to resign, he stated that he has "never been so ashamed of my country as on February 24 of this year."

However, according to some Western sources, Bondarev is not the only one who has turned his back on Putin.

Anatoly Chubais, a longtime government official in charge of sustainable development affairs in international organisations, also resigned due to his disagreement with Putin's decision to attack Ukraine.

Former Russian deputy prime minister, Arkady Dvorkovich, who had also been serving as the chairman of the International Chess Federation, also decided to step down.

Zhanna Agalakova and Lila Gildeyeva, both longtime anchors on Russian state-run TV channels, also quit their jobs due to the invasion of Ukraine.

According to Newsweek, shortly after Russia launched its military offensive against Ukraine, Elena Kovalskaya, the director of a state-run theater located in Moscow, resigned, Business Insider reports.

As Newsweek also stated, Elvira Nabiulla, the governor of Russia's central bank, also tried to quit, but Putin refused to accept her resignation.
