The governments of as many as 35 European countries have asked UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin to expel officials from Russia and Belarus from the bodies of the Union of European Football Association, the British Daily Mail reported.

This primarily refers to Alexander Dyukov, a Russian businessman who is also the as the Chairman of the management Board of Gazprom Neft, the President of FC Zenit Saint Petersburg and the current President of the Russian Football Union.

In addition to Dyukov, former KGB members Oleg Deripaska and Sergey Pryadkin also hold positions in UEFA.

As the Daily Mail reports, in addition to Great Britain, France and Germany also participate in the initiative against Russian and Belarusian officials, and the reason is the war in Ukraine.

Russia and Belarus have 22 representatives in the bodies and panels of UEFA, and since the Russian and Belarusian teams were expelled from the European Cups, the logic of most European countries is that the same measures should be applied to the officials.

They are also being criticised for their closeness to Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is considered the most responsible person for the invasion of Ukraine.
