- We are doing everything not to escalate the conflict. Russia is a nuclear power, and we are very aware that if this conflict turns into a NATO conflict against Russia, then we will go into World War III - Michel said in an interview with the Spanish newspaper "El País".

He adds that they are in constant contact with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who, as he says, has special requirements from the EU.

- It is true that he wanted more. But EU enlargement is a sensitive issue and not all European countries share the same opinion on it - Michel said.

He also believes that other countries whose accession process has begun should be taken into account.

- We must support our partners who look to the free world. The agreements on joining the EU have a huge potential, which is underestimated - the President of the European Council emphasised.
